Middle area of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

4 miles South of Reedsport, Oregon at Winchester Bay

  

Description:

Winchester Bay/Umpqua Dunes: Located south of Winchester Bay, this riding area is home to the tallest sand dunes in the Oregon Dunes NRA. The area is accessed from Umpqua Beach #2 Parking lot, and Umpqua Beach #3 Day use. Both are open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.. A ride to the top of a tall dune offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The beach is closed to OHV travel year round. Other Campgrounds available in this area are Discovery Point, Salmon Harbor Resort, and Windy Cove. Two private rental companies, Dunes Odyssey and Dune Buggy Adventures, which furnish ATV rentals or tours.

Directions to Winchester Bay:

From Reedsport: south 2 miles on US 101 to Winchester Bay.  Turn right at Pelican Market onto Salmon Harbor Drive.  

Camping Areas: 

  1. Discovery Point Resort

Private campground. 60 RV sites with full hookups. Dune access is very close, short ride on pavement.  The park is located on Half Moon Bay below the Umpqua Lighthouse. Access to Winchester Bay/Umqua Dunes.

Directions: 
 - From Reedsport: south 2 miles on US 101 to Winchester Bay.  Turn right at Pelican Market onto Salmon Harbor Drive.  Proceed 1 mile and Discovery Point Resort is on the left hand side.

- From North Bend: US 101 north to Winchester Bay. Turn left at Pelican Market onto Salmon Harbor Drive.  Proceed 1 mile and Discovery Point Resort is on the left hand side.

2. Half Moon Bay Campground - Douglas County Park Department

Highway 101 three miles south of Reedsport to Winchester Bay. One mile west on Salmon Harbor Drive. Newly constructed campground for the off road enthusiast. Features 45 large “first come – first serve” campsites and five reservable group sites. Group sites (A, B, & D) are $60.00 per night and Group Site C and Group Site E are $75.00 per night. Individual non hook-up sites are $20.00 per night.

3. Windy Cove - Douglas County Park Department

Windy Cove A (541-271-4138) and Windy Cove B (541-271-5634) are located adjacent to Salmon Harbor at Winchester Bay via Hwy 101, 4 miles south of Reedsport. Camp sites at Windy Cove A are “first come, first serve”. 21 hookup sites (out of 40) are reservable at Windy Cove B through the park office (541-957-7001). We also accept reservations for 8 of our 29 non-hookup sites. Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
